“Gaining enlightenment is an accident. Spiritual practice simply makes us accident-prone.” I discovered this quote from Suzuki Roshi, the Japanese monk who popularized Zen Buddhism in America, after I began a blog about my own spiritual unfolding that I had entitled The Practiced Accident. Illuminating “accidents” like that happen often when we begin to really do what we’ve been meaning to do for a long time. My blog is a sort of spiritual connect-the-dots process, an idiosyncratic pilgrim’s progress, and, more than anything, an encouragement to any and everyone that we really can, with practice, enlighten up.
